Community fundraising – our visit from the National Citizen Service

We’ve hosted five different teams from different waves of teenagers from the National Citizen Service (NCS), helping them to raise funds for our reminiscence village.

Throughout the summer teenagers from the programme split their time between fundraising out in the community for our reminiscence village and providing fun activities for the customers at Holmfield Day Centre.

The main aim of the programme is to provide young people with all sorts of new experiences. Ultimately, this gives them a chance to gain a host of new skills and increase their confidence.

Over £1000 was raised, which will go towards our reminiscence village. The activities they got involved in, included:

• Curry nights
• Cake sales
• Quiz nights
• Sponsored walks
• Gardening
• A concert
• Singing and dancing
• Arts and crafts with customers
• Board games with customers
• Entertaining customers
• Cake decorating with customers.

Anne Byrne, Support Worker at Holmfield Day Centre, said: “It was such a pleasure to have the energy and enthusiasm of all the teams injected into our day centre. They had such a positive effect on our customers, engaging the usually more reluctant in dancing, games and cake decorating.

“Even our environment was given a face lift with their hard work gardening, fence painting and varnishing the shops in our reminiscence village. The amount of money they raised has helped us achieve our goal of obtaining our red phone box that will be treasured by all.”
