Our volunteers

Just an hour of your time can make someone’s day

We are so lucky to have a number of volunteers that give their time to support our work at George Hythe House and Holmfield Dementia Day Centre.

Our volunteers play a vital role. They compliment the excellent work of our staff and help give personalised experiences to the people we support.

We always welcome new volunteers and you don’t have to be a concert pianist or professional gardener to volunteer with us (though these skills are always very welcome!). Simply spending time with our older people can make a big difference to them. Having a chat and sharing a cup of tea; simple things can make a massive difference.

Other opportunities include accompanying residents and day visitors around ‘Memory Lane’, our new reminiscence village. Chatting about personal memories and past times is hugely beneficial to our older people and simply offering a friendly ear can make their day.

In return for their time with us, volunteers get a real sense of fulfilment. They are welcomed into our team and offered all the necessary training; reasonable travel expenses are reimbursed.
